Lot

Although he was born in a family that was God fearing, he faced troubles since he chose something that attracted him, instead of praying and being humble.

Strengths:

He followed the true God when he realized that his relative (uncle Abraham) chose to follow the true God – Yahweh.

He welcomed and showed hospitality to those who came to his house.

Believed in the words of the angels and obeyed them.

He was one righteous man burdened by the sin that prevailed in his city.

Weaknesses:

He chose the place that attracted him because of his selfishness.

His two daughters seemed to have learnt the sins from the people in their city and followed it.

Since Lot’s wife desired for worldly possessions, she turned into a pillar of rock. This is a warning to all of us.

Sarah

The only woman to whom God has changed the name as mentioned in the Bible. Waited upon God’s promise for years. Even though her faith wasn’t strong in the early stages, later trusted God and received the promise. Sarah sets us an example for all of us that even if we give up it’s never too late to get up!

Strengths:

Gave high respect to her husband (1 Peter 3:6).

Although she got tired of waiting on God’s promise, she gathered strength and trusted in God in the latter part and received the blessing.

The first woman to be mentioned in the faith list. (Hebrews 11:11).

Weaknesses:

Her faith was weak initially.

Instead of waiting upon God’s promise, she became a reason for the birth of Ismael since she acted on her own.

Tried to hide her mistakes. Complained about others.

Instead of correcting Hagar, she chased her away.

Melchizedek

He is a puzzle. All of a sudden he appears in the Bible in a small part. He was a king of Salem who was also the priest of Most High God even before Israel was formed. When Abraham found that Melchizedek was the priest of the Most High God whom he serves, he gave tithe from everything he had.
Some compare him with the Holy Spirit as (Hebrews 7:2-4)
– He did not have a father and mother,
– He did not have a beginning and end,
– He was comparable to the Son of God,
– He was a man who could get tithe from Abraham.

God changed Abram which means “exalted father” to Abraham which means “father of a multitude.” The same God changes our names from sinner to God’s child. Abraham who almost offered his son as a sacrifice to God is considered as a sign of God giving His only Son Jesus as a sacrifice.

Strengths:

Abraham loved God more than his people and place.

He believed more in God’s promises than what he saw.

He is the best example of obedience. Although he did not know where he was going, he started from his place just because God told him to do so. He was also ready to sacrifice his son whom he begot at the age of 100.

Although there seemed no possibility for him to give birth at that age, he believed completely on God’s promises.

He is the first example for a human to become righteous through faith.

He sought the heavenly house and eternal life than the worldly house and city.

He interceded to God for his nephew Lot and his family.
